1/7/2024 0 Comments Set opening page in jutohEpub3 also makes embedded video possible. The TOC file in epub3 is a lot easier to parse. Once finished I will offer an epub2 download for devices but I will use my own server-side PHP-based software to dynamically display the corresponding epub3 version as webpages (that will be accessible only to those who purchase a password). Jutoh works by default as epub but it can be made to export as epub3, which I will eventually do. Now I'm trying to get rid of web pages and to replace them with epub. I've been selling passwords that grant access to online boat building instructions since dinosaurs roamed. I got them by unzipping the epub I made with sigil, which is now larger, with more sections and a larger number of images-as made now by Jutoh. The listings above are already out of date. I'd switch back to sigil if it wasn't so slow. I like the sigil GUI better than Jutoh's. That's why the Introduction.xhtml wasn't the first listing above. Both sigil and Jutoh both organize the wysiwyg TOC in a top to bottom sequence that is configurable, that is different than what `ls -l` produces on a unix system. I have to wash the epoxy resin from fiberglassing off my hands before attacking the keyboard.ĭo I mean mean "alphabetical" order" in the listing above? No. I'm trying to finish building a new boat and to finish a book, now using Jutoh, which continues to work without a hitch. rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 2160 Mar 12 13:44 Weighing-resin.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 422 Mar 12 13:44 Side-panels.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 7570 Mar 12 13:44 Scarfing-plywood.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 4734 Mar 12 13:44 Rowers-seat-diagrams.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 8005 Mar 12 13:44 Repair-manual.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 8506 Mar 12 13:44 Reduding-rocker.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 3999 Mar 12 13:44 README.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 3905 Mar 12 13:44 Plascore-bottoms.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 19082 Mar 12 13:44 Overview.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 4389 Mar 12 13:44 Other-plan-sets.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 6571 Mar 12 13:44 New-hull-designs.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 2810 Mar 12 13:44 Materials-notes.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 7255 Mar 12 13:44 History.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 5733 Mar 12 13:44 Gunwale-choices.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 306 Mar 12 13:44 Building-the-honky-dory.xhtml rw-rw-r- 1 sandy sandy 9995 Mar 12 13:44 Building-Part1.xhtml This quick ls -l shows the xhtml files out of TOC order I'm a bit sour on sigil right now, especially so because Jutoh works so well. I am still a big fan of epub, especially epub3. I conclude my trouble was NOT due to user error. A keyword search on "sigil too slow" reveals many links, including other threads in this forum. I am not the only one who has found it so slow it is not unusable. But I do think they are going to have to fix the software. I'm running with 700 pixels now because that's what I use on my boat building website. All said images come from original jpegs almost 4000 pixels wide so I can knock them down to any size. Boat building is complex and I need to add even more. On those 22 pages or sections I currently have a total 50 or so images. I have 22 chapters or epub *.xhtml sections averaging something like 4000 words each. So I purchased Jutoh and that works just fine. When it was text only I could manage the editor but as I began to add 2 to four 700 pixel wide images per page sigil became unusable. Is my epub large? Not if it was a website. I have an old but capable quad core Linux box with a ton of memory. Ok I'm revisiting my own thread a week later.
